These 'English translations are the most authentic documents available providing evidence of these voyages. "The Voyages to Vinland (c. 1000)" tells of the discovery of North America by Leif Ericsson as contained in The Saga of Eric the Red, translated by A. M. Reeves from the Flateyar-bok compiled by Jon Thordharson about 1387. "The Letter of Columbus Announcing His Discovery (1493)" was written to Luis de Sant Angel, Treasurer of Aragon, intended for the eyes of Ferdinand and Isabella, translated by Professors Hart and Channing. "Amerigo Vespucci's Account of His First Voyage (1497)," published in Italian in 1505-6, is translated by "M. K." for Quaritch's edition, London, 1885. And "John Cabot's Discovery of North America (1497)" contains evidence from contemporary witnesses whose information may have come from Cabot himself. The text is from the Hakluyt Society's edition of Columbus' journal. NOTE: Not to be confused with a book of the same title by William Wheeler. The reading is over two hours long on two Audio CDs.
